Privacy Policy

CardTally - Loyalty Wallet keeps your loyalty, membership and gift cards, ready to show at the till. It keeps them on your phone. There are no accounts and nothing to sign in to, and the app does not send your cards, their numbers or their pictures to us or to anyone else. If you choose to turn on iCloud sync, your cards go to your own private iCloud, which we cannot see.

This is the whole policy, written plainly.

The short version

• Your cards stay on your phone — and in your own private iCloud only if you turn sync on.
• We have no servers. We never see a single card, number or picture.
• No accounts, no tracking, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party code of any kind.

The camera

CardTally uses the camera to read a card's barcode and to take a picture of a card that has none. Reading the barcode and the number happens on your phone; nothing is sent anywhere to be processed. You are asked for camera access the first time, and you can withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings — you can still type a card's number instead.

Pictures of your cards

• Pictures are kept inside CardTally — and in your own private iCloud only if you turn sync on. CardTally never saves them to your photo library.
• A picture leaves CardTally only inside a backup or a card you send — files you make yourself (see below).
• Before a picture is kept, the details a camera adds — location, device and time — are removed.
• When you choose a picture you already have, CardTally receives only the one you pick. It does not browse or read anything else in your library.
• When you add cards from screenshots, CardTally reads only the pictures you pick, on your phone, and keeps only the barcodes it finds — not the screenshots.

Payment cards

CardTally recognises bank, debit and credit card numbers by their format and refuses them. Such a number is never stored. Those cards belong in Apple Wallet.

iCloud sync (off unless you turn it on)

With Sync with iCloud on in CardTally's settings, your cards and their pictures are kept in your private iCloud database, provided by Apple, so they appear on your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Apple encrypts them in transit and at rest. They are yours alone: we have no access to them and no way to see them. You can turn sync off at any time.

Widgets and App Lock

• Widgets, and the Control Centre and Lock Screen button, show card names and colours only — never a barcode or a number.
• App Lock uses Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode through your phone itself. CardTally never receives your face, your fingerprint or your passcode — only whether the check passed.

Backups and shared cards

• A backup is one file holding every card, with its pictures and notes. You choose where it goes — on your iPhone or in iCloud Drive — and CardTally never sends it anywhere.
• A card you send to someone is a small file holding that card and its pictures, but not your note. It goes only to whoever you send it to. By Messages, Mail or WhatsApp, a line with CardTally's App Store link goes with it, and you see it before you send.
• Both files are plain text inside, so keep a backup somewhere private, as you would any copy of your cards.

Importing cards

When you import a file of cards — a backup, a card someone sent you, or a list from another app — CardTally reads only the file you choose, on your phone. Anything it recognises as a payment card, including a picture showing one, is skipped and not kept.

Purchases

CardTally Unlimited is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never receive your payment details. The app only learns whether Unlimited is unlocked.

What we do not do

• We do not collect analytics, usage statistics or crash data.
• We do not use advertising or any third-party tracking code.
• We do not build profiles, and we do not sell, rent or share anything about you.
• We do not have accounts, so we hold no email address, password or profile for you.
• We do not receive your cards, their numbers, their pictures or your notes.

Keeping and deleting your data

Because your cards are on your phone, you are the one in control. Delete a card inside the app to remove it. Delete the app to remove everything on the phone at once. If iCloud sync was on, CardTally's copy in your iCloud can be deleted from your iCloud storage in your phone's settings. There is nothing held anywhere else for us to delete.

Children

CardTally is a general-purpose card wallet and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children — and in fact we do not collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If CardTally ever handles data differently, we will update this page and describe it clearly here before that change reaches the app.
