ScanTally turns paper into something you can use: a clean PDF you can search, or a receipt
read into a row you can total and export. Everything happens on your phone.
Getting a good scan
- Hold the phone flat over the page. The reading at the top shows how many degrees off
parallel you are, and the shot fires on its own once you are square and steady.
- In a hurry, or scanning something awkward? Switch to Manual and press the shutter
yourself.
- If the edges land in the wrong place, tap the page after the scan and drag the corners.
A magnifier follows your finger so you can put them exactly on the paper.
- Hold a page to move or remove it before saving.
- Clean, Colour and Grey change how the page is
finished. Clean is right for most paper.
Receipts and what gets read
- Scan with Receipt and ScanTally reads the merchant, the date, the total, the tax and
the currency.
- Extraction is a best effort on paper that is often creased, faded or oddly printed. Anything it
gets wrong you can correct — tap the details under a saved receipt and edit any field.
- To change a category quickly, hold a receipt in the list and pick a new one. Hold
several at once after tapping Select.
Getting the table out
- Under Spend, tap Export these receipts…. Whatever the filters are
showing is what comes out.
- Narrow first if you want a period: the filter menu has this month, this quarter, this year and
this tax year, which begins where your country's tax year actually begins.
- Four shapes: CSV for accountants and bookkeeping software, Excel when
dates and amounts need to stay dates and amounts, one PDF of every page, or
a zip holding the summary and every scan together.
- To pick particular ones instead, tap Select beside Scans.
Bringing in what you already have
- Add a file brings in what you already have — From Files or
From saved images.
- A picture of a page is straightened and read just like a scan, and on the next screen you say whether it
is a document or a receipt.
- A PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, web page or text file gives you a choice: Save to my
scans, Add pages to an existing document, Pull out the text as
Word, a web page, rich text or plain text, Pull out a table, or Turn into
slides.
- An Excel or CSV sheet comes in as rows: add them to one of your ScanTally sheets, or save them as a new
one. The file you brought in is never changed.
- Sharing a file to ScanTally from another app does the same thing.
Finding something later
Search covers names, merchants and every word on every page you have scanned, and a result
shows you the line it matched. Scans can also be found from your phone's own search without opening the app —
there is a switch for that in settings.
Your files are yours
Scans are kept in a ScanTally folder in your phone's files. Open it, copy it out, back it up — nothing is
locked in, and there is no account to lose access to. Exported PDFs are searchable in whatever opens them,
because the words are laid into the file.
Common questions
Does anything leave my phone? No. There is no account, no server and no internet code in
the app. See the privacy policy.
A total came out wrong. Tap the details under the receipt and correct it. The totals and
any export follow immediately.
A page is crooked or cut off. Tap the page in the review screen and drag the corners, or
scan it again — holding the phone flatter usually fixes it on its own.
Pulling a table out of a scan is missing. That one needs the latest system update on your
phone; the rest of the app does not.
How do I delete everything? Delete items inside the app, or delete the app — it all lives
on your phone.
Still stuck?
Email appshelp@clixappsai.com and tell us what you were doing
and what happened. If it involves a particular scan, describing the paper helps more than you would think.
